Summer Celebrations Return with Juneteenth and Pride Month BBQs

For the first time since the pandemic began, we were able to welcome some of our amazing Emerging Leaders Council members for two special bbq's celebrating Pride and Juneteenth. Youth, volunteers and staff had a great time eating delicious burgers, ice cream and cupcakes on our shaded patio.

For the Pride bbq, volunteers brought rainbow flags, special temporary tattoos and rainbow cupcakes to help create a festive atmosphere. For Juneteenth, we set up African textiles throughout our outdoor Safe Haven and gave out handbells in honor of the event's theme: "Let Freedom Ring!" Finally, both events featured educational posters about the history of Juneteenth, LGBTQ+ history, and biographies of prominent Black and LGBTQ+ figures.
