My Friend's Place Launches Annual "Pull Up" Event

On July 10th, My Friend's Place held our inaugural day of racial justice and action. Steered by our JEDI (Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion) Committee, the day was named "Pull-Up: Celebrating Youth of Color in the Fight Against Racism." Pull up in this sense means the opposite of move on; to cease; and to confront the opposition, in this case, we are confronting racism and systems of oppression. Our staff, volunteers and community celebrated the young people of My Friend's Place, ensuring that they feel special, seen and honored. The celebration included a capoeira demonstration, spoken word poetry, art workshops, and an opportunity for youth to learn from supportive adults what passions they might yet uncover. We are centering joy and imagining a better tomorrow. We pull up as a community, for the youth of My Friend's Place.
