Inside The My Friend's Place Access Center
In April, My Friend's Place recognized the anniversary of our designation as a Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority funded Access Center in partnership with the Los Angeles LGBT Center. As an Access Center, we provide youth experiencing homelessness with a 'one stop shop' to access resources to resolve their housing crisis. We focus on early intervention to resolve first-time homelessness so that it doesn’t become chronic and/or long term, and provide youth with connection to the Coordinated Entry System (the LA-wide system which aims to facilitate and expedite the resolution of an individual's homelessness), emergency services referrals, case management, and resources including health, mental health and substance use. By providing centralized access to these resources as well as our internal services, we are able to assist youth to rapidly and permanently resolve their homelessness.
While My Friend's Place has provided wraparound care for many years, the Access Center designation affords our organization greater integration with larger systems of care and the ability to leverage public resources to support our continuum of care without compromising our low-barrier, individualized care service model. We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the LA LGBT Center and LAHSA who share our goal of ending youth homelessness.
