Continuing to Care for Our Community

Dear My Friend's Place friends and family,

It's undeniable. Our lives have all been impacted by the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Life looks different this week, and may continue to look different in the weeks and months to come. Yet some things remain constant. We remain committed to doing all that we can to provide care to youth experiencing homelessness in our community, many of whom have nowhere else to go in a time of crisis, and we know that you care deeply about this community that you support and invest in.  We know the power that we have as a community when we come together (even as we practice social distancing) to support our most vulnerable community members.

As of today, My Friend's Place is continuing to provide essential care to youth. While we are limiting drop-in services temporarily, we are still providing youth with meals, clothing and emergency supplies, as well as providing case management services and housing support. In addition, we are developing contingency plans in the event that My Friend's Place staff and youth are further impacted. The health and safety of our young people, staff members, volunteers and community is our top priority, and we are continuing to track and implement recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control as well as state and local health departments. Additionally, we are collaborating with our local partners to ensure youth experiencing homelessness are not forgotten in the face of this pandemic.

And we can't do this work alone. We need you!

How can you help?

  • Shop online through our Amazon Wishlist to help us provide meals, clothing and emergency supplies to our young people during this time. We will continue to update this list to reflect our greatest needs.
  • Support our Emergency Assistance Fund, established to support the critical supplies that will keep our facility clean, ensure that we can continue to provide youth with meals and emergency supplies and cover expenses related to an emergency sick time fund created to support staff health and wellness.
  • Stay Connected by following My Friend’s Place on our social channels to stay up to date on service changes, emerging needs and to be reminded of the impact that we have together in supporting our young people. Our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages can be found at the previous respective links.

It is a tremendous honor to do this work in partnership with you. Thank you for continuing to keep our staff and young people close to your hearts.
